

Kuttikanam (100 Meters in Radius, A City for a Stop during your Journey.) is a picturesque plantation town near Peermade. It is on the way from Kottayam to Peermade about four kilometer before Peermade.The town stnds at an altitude of 915 meters above sea level. The beautiful town is washed by the fragnence of the surrounding cardomom plantations and the lush green hills. This is the place where the road divides into two one to Thekady and the other to Kattapana and Munnar.
Kuttikkanam is 3,500 feet (1,100 m) above the sea level.
Kutti in malayalam means small stems of plants and kanam means woods.The meaning of the word Kuttikkanam is woods with small plants. The plants in this place will not grow very tall as the winds will not allow the plants to grow tall.So the hills were covered with short trees and plants. Due to this reason the place recieved the name Kuttikkanam. It is also spelled as Kuttikanam.
Peerumedu Development Society run Sahyadri Ayurvedic Pharmaceutical Factory and Treatment Centre is located here. Treatment with accommodation is available. The Ayurvedic Factory, a Km away from Treatment Centre, is open to visitors to have a close look at multi-staged processing of ingredients into medicinal concoction and decoction. Watching the process is informative and interesting.
