This monsoon, head to south Coorg to experience one of the most challenging whitewater rafting in South India in Barapole River. In 1905, the visionary Maharaja of Kochi, Sri Rama Varma set up a tramway to transport teakwood from Parambikulam to Chalakkudy. In what was once a flourishing trade, the timber was then exported to the rest of the World from Kochi Harbor. However, this came to an end in 1953.

Today, the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is a highly protected ecological project in the Western Ghats. Remnants of the Kochi Forest Tramway in the form of bridges, rusted wagons, rails, wheels, etc. can still be seen along the old rail.
